Steve Worth does it again. Here is a great new post on his ASIFA Hollywood animation blog about master cartoonist Ralph Bakshi. A whole load of doodles Steve swiped from Ralph’s trash can over the years and some historical perspective on Ralph’s contribution to animation and filmmaking. Link via Boing Boing.

Lavender Diamond are the champions of my triumphant music sound space! I only have the one four song EP, but it has rotated heavily in my mind and in my music player daily. Becky Stark’s lead vocalizing song and the bands full room of strings and sounds are the first I reach for when an elevating light filled music journey is what I need. There is something very perfect about the shortness of an EP, it is not much more then a taste but it satisfies completely. I recommend this music– for a bite, listen to this opening jamz, and go to their website for more of everything and to get a copy yourself.
Other members of Lavender Diamond include Ron Rege Jr., comic creator of one of the best books I’ve read, Skibber Bee Bye, and Jeff Rosenberg (ex-Young People, which is also an AWESOME BAND).

The dudes who love to rock at Paperrad have updated their site with new cool things. New bands like the Doo Man Group. New Get Well Soon cards for everyone you love. New Paper Rad Info, which looks like it is a good place to see new updates all the time. New 2005 the year in review.
Our pal Eric Fensler has updated his website, scroll down to find the first bit. I didn’t know people actually sold cool ringtones, but Fensler SCHOOLED me on that one with his tones for sale culled from his internationally beloved videos. And by that, I mean his G.I. Joe videos. CHECKit.
Sam Hiti’s brushmanship is a thing to behold. It may be something they put in the water in Minneapolis, where Sam’s friend (and our fellow Meathausman) Vincent “King Mini” Stall also resides– as they both have striking and individual attacks with the brush and ink. Sam’s website has a journal type thing with tons of amazing ink drawings along the bottom of each entry… you’ll miss them if you just use the navigation on the left. Sam has also joined the blog club (welcome brother) with Sam’s Infatuations, a regular sketch blog from which the above is pulled. Go to Sam’s website and order his comics!

Naturally I wanted to hold off writing about this kind of thing in public until I knew it was OK with my main-stabbed-man, Tim Heidecker. Yes, my pal and boss Tim from the Adult Swim show Tom Goes to the Mayor was attacked by a knife wielding and raging-on-PCP acquaintance of his from his own apartment building late last week. I got the default OK to write about it by seeing that he has posted the Official Version of the Story on his own blog. Gruesome and full of intrigue! I would say “Get Well Soon, Boss”, but he is already back here hard at work digging for laffs in the comedy mines. What a trooper!
Bill Wray, famous cartoon painter and comic-smith has become William Wray, California Regionalist Painter! The two are not mutually exclusive, of course. Bill and William have found a great way to work together.
In the end, this guy right here (posing with Lincoln), is a fine painter no matter the subject matter he tackles. Check out his websites tailor-made to your tastes. Like California Regionalist? Click over to William Wray’s painting blog. Prefer cartoon paintings executed with the most exciting colors and compositions? Click on over to Bill Wray’s BigBlownBaby website. (Still not sure exactly what that means, but he has a character of the same name who starred in his own comic, (which was awesome!))

I love checking out this free stat thing from Clustrmaps. We have the standard hit tracking software from our host, and we also have one of those free ones that shows you “geo-tracking”, but this one is cool because of the visualization. One quick look and you can tell that we need more love from the African continent.
To be fair, that map has only been tracking for less then a month. Our old stat tracker has reported visits from many African nations over the last four or five years. And it has also tracked visitors from cool places I’ve never heard of, such as the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Niue, Maldives, New Caledonia, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Macao, Mauritius, and Herzegovina! Hey, if any of you guys visit from any of those places again, drop a line and say hello. Maybe we can be pen pals?
