Jesse Tise sent over a package with a zine called Space Spells and letter in it. The zine looks good and feels good. It is made on gray paper, maybe of a thicker variety newsprint, with a mysterious printing process, all cut and bound precisely. Maybe inkjet on newsprint. That’s what I’m thinking. The letter reads:
“I really dig your website, and all the cool art + comics you guys show. Wanted to send you my newest zine, a booklet inspired by the music of flying lotus! Hope you dig it… like a spigot! Cheers, Jesse Tise”
Thank you Jesse! I do indeed dig it and have been caressing its tactile pages for the last minute. See more Jesse Tise work at ofgodsandmonsters.net and Flickr.

I haven’t played a ton of games on the iPhone but the one I did that felt like an instant classic was Rolando. Mikko Walamies (previously mentioned here) did art and design on that game and its sequel. Check out Mikko’s website and Flickr pages.

Projects, projects, projects, it’s great to have projects. David had a project where he painted a lot of small portraits. Here is his website that also has sketchbook and illustration work.

Tim Gough (previously mentioned here) is a fellow Philadelphian and teacher at UArts which is where I met him in the Illustration Department. His blog has a new post about a print show he is in with Greg Pizzoli and some nice screen print hand separation process shots and description. Greg’s blog has more to look at too, including a children’s book cover illustration process.

Eyeball this neat work by Ryan Peltier on his website here and blog. On Illustration Mundo, there is also a recent interview with him.
Not meaning to single out Ryan, but his interview brought up a subject that is fascinating to me: what are the days like for other freelance/one-person-business-people out there. I like to hear about the basics, like how much time is devoted generally to work and how much can be afforded to leisure. A lot of that has to do with individual artist’s temperament and the work they are producing and how efficient they are at their own process. People who really have their systems worked out also understand the value in the leisure, rest and variety of experiences they have when not working all the time. Ryan is currently in school working on a masters degree, however, and that’s a different equation than when one is full-time freelance.
