Today’s daily drawings are from Ron Wimberly and appear to be thumbnail sketches and a design for Myspace Darkhorse Presents Volume 3.
Unfortunately I missed posting about this before the event out in LA at Cinefamily about Henry Jacobs, but these video clips are neat. See this post from co-presenter Arthur for more info on the life and work of Henry Jacobs.
Illustrator Mike Kerr (previously mentioned here) animates his work occasionally and sticks it here. As is often the result when illustrators get into animation, the work tends to be quirky in good ways, unencumbered by clichés of motion and design internalized by many animators. The above piece has some deep sketchbook thoughts in it too.

Dave K. is well into his next comic book, a 225-pager called, Afterschool Special. He’s stashed three sample chapters from the work in progress up on his blog for you to read and relive your teenaged feelings and boners* with until the completed book comes out. From Dave’s blog:
“The story focuses on Jed, a jaded 17 year old musician who plays guitar for an Elvis impersonator at an amusement park. He has moved to a new town to live with his hippy aunt after his mother passes away. Feeling isolated, his thoughts begin to drift into creepy territory with horror movies as his reference for normal teenage social interactions. While cutting school, he meets Lisa, a tough but cute chain smoking girl who recently had an abortion. As their relationship progresses into something special, Jed’s fantasies begin to bare a closer resemblance to reality. But for Lisa, the future is about nostalgia and sex is out of the question.”

My old pal Jordan Kim from the Tom Goes To The Mayor/Yo Gabba Gabba days directs music videos sometimes and he said check out this new one he did for a Sam Prekop track, “The Silhouettes” and I was all, “Dang, I love music videos and Sam Prekop”, and then the video was available to watch full screen in HD here, and I watched it and it was a dreamy thing about this world where a lightbulb spaceman eats everything that glows and gets fat with power and vomits the energy into space which creates a light show and replenishes the world’s glowing things, which is a good thing, and these two friends just check it out and dig the enormity of it all.
Nick Edwards produces a lot of comics, drawings and visual research filled sketchbook pages and loads of it has been piling up on his blog since we last posted about his work here. There is also his livejournal with the same stuff on it.
