It was hard to find decent images of Kyotaro’s drawings and paintings online, and some of the most curious pieces could only be found as small snapshots of their published form in art magazines on Kyotaro’s information blog. She has some older drawing series on her website to look at, and her other site, her diary, seems to be just like the blog but with more photos of food.

“The Pig Farmer” by Nick Cross is his latest short cartoon generously shared with the world online. As you can see from the stills above, some interesting things happen during the Pig Farmer’s story. The short is embedded above, or you can watch it here, and see Nick’s post about it on his blog. Previously mentioned here. While you are in Nick’s Vimeo account, also screen “Yellow Cake” and “The Waif of Persephone“, his last two independently produced shorts.

In an envelope sent to Meathaus all the way from Tokyo, we received this handsome magazine Mograg with cover art by oki chu, and a note:
“Dear Meathaus, we have sent you the sample and hope it will reach you in a week or so. Please check the sample on receipt and inform the result by return. Awaiting your favorable reply.
Yours faithfully, Motoko Ohta, Owner”
Additionally there was some information about the 128 page b/w and color magazine:
“Japanese art & culture magazine. But NOT ‘otaku’. Mograg Magazine spotlights the works of relatively unknown art originators who relentlessly pursue their own worlds of expression with works that are filled with an edgy, strange magnetism, quite different from the anonymous, collective type of artwork, such as figure-focused anime and manga, that has become so common in the one dimensional otaku culture of today’s Japan.”
Thanks kindly for the Mograg! This is a beautiful piece of work with lots of interesting paintings and drawings. We will feature some of the enclosed artists over the next few days that have website addresses included in the magazine. (EDIT: Never mind, the websites didn’t do any of the work justice! It’s all better in magazine form.) So thank you also for the journey of eyeball discovery.

Gordon Magnin (previously mentioned here) sent over this zine that accompanied a previous show of his work of the same name, “10:10“, and a note that says:
“Hope you enjoy this zine—huge fan of Meathaus—
Best, Gordon”
Thanks for the zine, Gordon! It’s awesome to see these collage pieces on paper to focus on every geometric head reconfiguration and veiny muscleman part repurposed as a facial feature. Check out the rest of the zine and Gordon’s work on his website.

Hannah K. Lee sent over her new zine and a molten-gold-hand-painted card with the note:
“My name is Hannah, and I’m a long-time follower of Meathaus. I wanted to share with you a zine I recently made—I hope you like it. —Hannah K. Lee”
Yes, thank you Hannah! This zine is full of funny ink drawings and creative lettering. The subject matter is perfect for many readers of this Meat Log, concerning the anxiety of recent adulthood and trying to separate good advice from hollow motivational slogans. Of course I love hollow motivational slogans. Like Hannah writes on her blog, whatever works. You can get your own copy of this zine here and preview the whole thing here.
