A favorite website has evolved. A Journey Round My Skull, the excellent archive of exceptional book art and illustration curated by Will Schofield has become 50 Watts. This is the perfect excuse to link to the collection once more (previously mentioned here and here and etc..) and share a tiny taste of the art you can find there such as these illustrations above by Phil Kirkland for early 1970s science textbooks.

Matthew Allison has dedicated his life to producing and uploading a new page of CALAMITY OF CHALLENGE every Monday for your reading pleasure, especially if you are into dripping-flesh cyborg heros named CANKOR, like I am. Click to read our story so far.

Over at Classy Hands, they’ve got a new interview with Brandon that includes some new Multiple Warheads artwork (upcoming book) for you to preview.

Diego Marmolejo makes illustrations in sunny Barcelona and sticks them on this blog.

Matt’s website was updated recently and includes, on top of these stunners, film related work (by way of illustrated frames for animated segments) for the recent Sundance winner Resurrect Dead, and another documentary called The Silent Truth.
Homestuck, by Andrew Hussie. Man, what a smart guy. When it’s on its game, which it usually is, it’s one of the most profoundly entertaining comics reading experiences of my life. There was a time when I would have said “fiction reading experiences”, but, well- the story is so long and meandering, my mind lately is starting to cry out for closure. Too much of a good thing perhaps.
I don’t want to say too much about the story. Or anything at all, really. It ends up somewhere very different from where it starts. In fact, I wish I could reproduce for y’all my baffling and mind-blowing introduction to this comic. I don’t think that would work, but if I were to try, I’d post this comic:
which I stumbled onto randomly somewhere, and leave you to it. It was so, so weird I had to learn more about the sick weirdo who made it. After a lot of clicking and googling I ended up on a cluttered page with that image above of a boy in a room and a hyperlink. I started reading this thing, thinking it was some kind of demented lark by an internet recluse, and pretty quickly had my mind fully blown. I will treasure that experince always.
Anyways- disclaimer: I think maybe 1 out of 10 people I’ve recommended Homestuck to have been at all interested in it… so… I don’t know… Give it a shot!
Check out this exclusive bookplate edition of Demo, by the imitable Becky Cloonan.
Why not also swing by Becky’s Ink & Thunder blog to see what else she’s up to. Hint: she’s drawing lots and lots of comics.
Steve Wolfhard’s Cat Rackham comics have been on this blog before, but I think he’s due for another mention. I love his drawings so much; one of my very favorites. Plus I think all his old links are obsolete now. Check out his website for Cat Rackham comics. Though I swear there were some others from his old livejournal that aren’t on this new site. Bummer. Anyway, he’s also got a flickr.
Also, Steve’s been doing little bits of freelance stuff for Adventure Time season 3. We’re always pestering him to do more. Fingers crossed.
