Notable Nuggets

RUB THE BLOOD sketches by BALD EAGLES

A few notable nuggets I found in my mindspace:

Pat Aulisio has posted batshit RUB THE BLOOD sketches by Victor Cayro over here. One is above. These gentlemen are requesting funding for this venture, though it seems to already have been successfully funded, nice work!

Richie Brown

Richie Brown drew funny drawings in the drawing book I made, two are above where I drew the hairdo and he took care of all the other business. Richie also made his own drawing/coloring book, GOO GARDEN. Check it all out here.

And don’t forget if you wouldn’t mind having 100 free business cards, possibly with all different designs on them (it’s up to you), you can enter to win them just by commenting something on this linked post before Monday morning. That’s a done deal.

Allison Schulnik animated this piece called “Mound” that had me mesmerized. You can view in HD over here. Via Cartoon Brew via Jorge Gutierrez.

Custom Business Card Give Away

Custom Business Card Give Away

If you’ve been hanging around here long enough, you should know that I love business. BUSINESS! After many long, tortured years of resisting the concept of being in business, I embraced it. I learned that running your own business while maintaining your own standards of ethical and performance excellence can be a pinnacle of do-it-yourself achievement. I realized that drawing pictures and making books and videos and records and animating cartoons was what I loved doing growing up with my friends and that I would have to work hard to make that a viable option as my job. And I figured out that having a super fun business card to give to people that I meet is a really convenient way to give them the information, so I got over any goofy hang-ups that I had about that too, real quick.

These days there are a lot of companies out there that can print your custom designed business cards, postcards, stickers and other products. One that stands out is MOO, because they offer the option to have multiple designs in each order of cards, with no extra charges and plenty of low quantity print-run options that work for smaller budgets.

MOO knew what they were doing when they contacted us at Meathaus, because amongst you readers I know there are loads of visual artists/designers that are out in the world toughing it out as freelance warriors and business owners. You are the people that could certainly use some free business cards. So MOO has hooked us up with three coupon codes that will grant three winners of a random drawing 100 free cards.

All you have to do to get in the running is to comment anything on this post, making sure to enter a working email address in the appropriate spot, which is not viewable to the public but it is how winners will be contacted. The commenting will be open from now until early Monday morning when I get up. I get up early. For practical purposes, let’s just say until Sunday night. Then Monday morning I’ll pick three random winners and contact them with their codes that will work in both the US or UK centric stores that MOO operates. That’s it! Nice doing business with ya.

EDIT: Drawing is over! Stephen, bobotinkle and Mike have been notified that they won free biz cards!

Letter to Meathaus: Dave Nuss

Letter to Meathaus: Dave Nuss

Dave Nuss of Revival House Press sent over the next issue of Drew Beckmeyer‘s epic Everything Unseen, (parts 4 & 5), and a note that reads:

“Here it is! The 2nd issue of Everything Unseen (w/ parts 4 & 5). I hope you like it. It contiues where the first issue left off: our hero Charles Grodin navigating harsh, desert conditions. This one packs a punch! (War gods and all.) Take care and have a nice week -Dave”

Well thanks, Dave, and thank Drew too. This comic book will certainly make any week more pleasant, and it appears to be a nice hefty volume of material. Last year, Dave sent over volume one and you can see that package here.

Letter to Meathaus: Andy Ristaino

Letter to Meathaus: Andy Ristaino

Meathaus S.O.S. and GFTG! contributor and cool dude Andy Ristaino sent over a package with three zines and a note about there being three zines that he sent over, but I lost the note, but you get the gist of it. Thanks Andy! There is one here with one hundred and forty people from the future drawn in it plus some other guys, and one called TUNNEL with super cover art. Both comics say “promo” on the back so maybe they will be printed in another way too. Check Andy’s blog since his website says it was hacked.

Letter to Meathaus: Lee Bretschneider

Letter to Meathaus: Lee Bretschneider

Lee Bretschneider sent over another package with a drawing zine and comics and and a sketch about Meathaus’s mad legit alias. Thanks for the load, Lee. Previously Lee had sent over Bubblegum Party to share with you, and this package contains Has Anyone Ever Told You That You Look Like Buddy Holly? and Bellanova Redstar: Space Girl 4199 At The Edge of the Universe. Check Lee’s comics outfit here, blog, and this.

Letter to Meathaus: Donya Todd

Letter to Meathaus: Donya Todd

Donya Todd writes Meathaus:

“Dear Meathaus, I’m writing because I love your crazy website and I wanted to show you some of my work. I hope you enjoy my little package from England. All the best, Donya Todd”

Thanks, Donya! Donya sent over some comics zines and this risograph printed two-color poster and this cool skateboarding flag waving dog drawing for you to look at. Also see more D.T. work here, blog, portfolio site.

Letter to Meathaus: Matt Taylor

Letter to Meathaus: Matt Taylor

Matt Taylor sent a bright yellow envelope half-way around the globe to Meathaus with a comic book, Lars the Last Viking Goes to the End of the World, and a letter which reads in part:

“Here is a copy of my new self-published book, I hope you enjoy it. I run a small animation company in Sydney but have recently been having a comics resurgence in my life and this is the first significant result … Am a big fan of your site and check in regularly, let me know if there are any group activities I could throw my 2 cents in from afar …”

Thanks for the comic and the letter, Matt. While we haven’t cooked up a new collaborative project in a while like MELTING POT, that doesn’t mean we wont again sometime. Have a look at Matt’s animation company linked above and his blog for in-progress shots of his comics work and more.
