Letter to Meathaus: Everett Rand

Everett Rand of the Mineshaft Magazine publishing empire has sent Meathaus another expertly crafted comics, sketchbook, poetry and drawing zine full of stupendous creations and a typed letter reading:

“Jan 10, 2017
Hello Chris at Meathaus,
Here’s a copy of the new Mineshaft… I hope you like it!
very best wishes,
Everett
Mineshaft Headquarters”

Absolutely, Everett! This issue is full of work from storied contributors R. Crumb, Billy Childish, J.R. Helton, Bill Griffith, Peter Poplaski, Rika Deryckere, Robert Armstrong, John Porcellino, Jim Blanchard, Karl Stevens, Christoph Mueller, Noah Van Sciver, Justin Murphy, Nina Bunjevac, Frank Stack, Aaron Lange, Laure Boin, Mary Fleener, David Collier, and William Crook, Jr. See more on the Mineshaft website where you can get your own copies and many back issues.

Letter to Meathaus: Christoph Mueller

Look at this: Meathaus SOS contributor Christoph Mueller sent Meathaus his solo comic book anthology The Nincompoop No. 1 and an envelope drawing that reads:

“Hey there Meathaüs!
Hope you’ll dig my little D.I.Y. comic book–
Best wishes,
C.M. 2016”

Outstanding, Christoph. What a fine production, and self-published, too! You know we at Meathaus can dig that. In terms of digging, The Nincompoop makes me feel like I’ve just dug it out of the stacks of NYC’s comics shops seventeen years ago when I was scoring ’90s era Eightballs and Dirty Plottes and picking up the latest Jimmy Corrigans. You’ll want to find more about this ish over on Mueller’s Journal and check out all the other fine drawing and design work while you are there.

Check out that Mary Fleener cover on this bad boy. And look at that tag list below to see just some of the artists represented in this volume (I think I got most of them.) Thanks again Everett and co-publisher/co-editor Gioia Palmieri for doggedly cranking out this labor of love… This is issue #33! That’s an impressive chunk of independent publishing. Heck, Meathaus only made it to #9 (SOS, buy one here over half-off, fool! The discount more than covers the shipping cost, duh! Still a deal, you sack of sh-!) But truthfully, on this post about Mineshaft we should be pushing their wares with our refined sales techniques, not ours. Do yourself a favor and get over to the Mineshaft website to take a look at this and past issues and get yourself some prime toilet reading (it really is, nice variety, small sections, one and two-pager comics etc.) Also see past Mineshafts to Meathaus on the Mineshaft tag.

Letter to Meathaus: Mineshaft #28

Letter to Meathaus: Mineshaft #28

Mineshaft Magazine sent over a Mineshaft Magazine with a note that said “with compliments of Mineshaft Magazine” which Meathaus is very appreciative of. This latest issue is number 28, and has more drawings by R. Crumb, Christoph Mueller (who was in Meathaus S.O.S.), Billy Childish and more plus photographs by Luca Donnini (see above) and others, writing and poetry. Christoph Mueller is a remarkable artist who (as it seems to me) was heavily influenced by Crumb’s line work and rendering techniques previously, and now, at least in this issue is more obviously under the influence of Chris Ware’s work at least in the surface qualities of design, layout and character designs. You’ll find quotes from both of those artists praising him on his website as well, checkitout.

Dig these shots of the latest Mineshaft issue, #27 which as usual features drawings and dream journals from R. Crumb, and a revolving cast of artists such as Nina Bunjevac who created the cover and an interior comic, and Christoph Mueller (contributor to Meathaus S.O.S.). Thanks to publishers Everett and Gioia for pumping out these fantastic zines of comics and art interest.

Meathaus received the latest issue of Mineshaft Magazine, #26, which features the comics and drawings shown above by Pat Moriarity, Robert Crumb, David Collier, William Cook Jr., and Meathaus S.O.S. contributor Christoph Mueller amongst others as well as a few poems, dream journals, essays and letters. It all comes as a tight little off-set printed number with two color cover and black and white interiors. Head over to the Mineshaft website to get this issue and available back issues.
