We finally get some Matt Furie material animated in this collaborative cartoon First Date by Matt and Joseph Bennett, with sound design by Mike Jansson and voices by Aiyana Udesen and Matt. See more from Matt on his Tumblr and website, and the Matt Furie tag.
The Future Colors of America, Albert Reyes, Matt Furie (more on his tumblr), and Aiyana Udesen, have a show up currently at Fecal Face‘s FFDG. Especially psyched to see a bunch of new Matt Furie art and I’m liking the collaborative pieces as well between different combos of the ‘Colors’. There is more than one piece with Braveheart and aliens.
Wow I’m eager to receive my copy of Matt Furie‘s The Night Riders and see how much of a brain-melt it will administer to my children. I have been meaning to mention this sometime too: I’m also the happy owner of Jordan Crane‘s book from the same publisher, McMullens, called Keep Our Secrets. This book is super fun and has black ink that becomes transparent showing art beneath when exposed to heat (like from rubbing friction, which unfortunately doesn’t work that well and is probably the reason there was a sticker applied to the front of the book that recommends using a hair dryer!). Check out this massive preview of The Night Riders on 50 Watts and get a copy yourself. Via Lisa Hanawalt who is another super artist published in this line of books from McMullens.
Will Sweeney directed Das Pop‘s “The Game” music video which is embedded above and makes a sexy viewing companion to Will’s earlier effort, the Birdy Nam Nam video, “The Parachute Ending“. Read more about it on Will’s news blog as well as his latest collaborations with Matt Furie and more. Previously mentioned here and here.
Remember all the way back to yesterday when we posted about these wallets from Poketo? Well here is an interesting wrinkle: we are giving away one of each of the five designs in the new “Perverse Universe” series to five lucky people over the next week that will be selected in five different ways. Poketo describes their new series thusly:
“We are so very thrilled to present to you guys the Perverse Universe Wallet Series. We have harnessed the wild and crazy energies of Matt Furie, Jon Vermilyea, and Louie Cordero into wallet form, as well as comic books, prints and posters!”
To see what they are talking about, check this link. The five wallet designs are above.
Let’s begin. To win the first giveaway wallet selected from above, comment on this very post by late tonight, July 20th. That’s to be safely entered in the running. If you happen to catch this in the early hours of July 21, you can still comment and enter. The selection happens when I roll out of bed at some ungodly hour in the morning and devise a computerized system for random selection of the winner. Then I will contact you to get your name and address. So be sure to comment with your email, not anonymously. Duh.
The remaining four wallets will be given out over the next week in different ways. Stay tuned. Secret clues: Twitter. Registered Meathaus Blog Users.
Despite already being covered in every magazine in the world, the people of POKETO knew that they still desired to reach out to the specific, highly-intelligent, cartoony art blog enthusiast, which of course is you, dear reader. Consequently, they sent over samples of the wallets that they produce featuring two artists that we know and love, Jon Vermilyea (previously posted here) and Matt Furie (previously posted here and many more). Each wallet has artwork sewn into a clear plastic body with plastic pockets that could handle a modest amount of cash, cards and doodads. Besides wallets, POKETO produces a lot of products and works with a large group of artists that are all worth investigating further.
I’ll just get over that this is marketing that is totally nailing me straight in my “demo” and enjoy the fact that rad comics dudes and ladies are being paid to produce new work. It appears that Johnny Ryan is responsible for curating this crew, and it is hosted by Vice Magazine. It’s certainly not your average marketing campaign for your average big studio “children’s movie”. Usually you’re gonna want to keep children away from reading Vice magazine. See the blog here as they reveal new comics every few days and post interviews with the artists.
A list of the artists involved: Ben Jones, Benjamin Marra, Dan Zettwoch, Esther Pearl Watson, Frédéric Fleury, Hellen Jo, Jordan Crane, Josh Simmons, La Merde, Lisa Hanawalt, Mark Todd, Martin Ontiveros, Matt Furie, Matthew Thurber, Nick Gazin, Ray Sohn, Ron Rege Jr, Sakabashira, Sammy Harkham, Shintaro Kago, Skinner, Ted May, Tony Millionaire, Vanessa Davis.
UPDATE: Well they went and blew their wild load all at once and here is a PDF version of the insert that is being printed in VICE Magazine right here with all the artwork in it, checkitout.
